Bring us a dream

I haven't been sleeping much, but I have been having a lot of strange dreams. Sometimes they're happy dreams and I wake up with a silly grin on my face. Other times I wish I didn't dream. And then there are the mundane dreams where I just repeat everything that happened that day, or even the next day, in a strangly predictive way. They tire me though, living the whole day all over again. But at least I haven't been sleepwalking again.

So here are some sandman songs, and they couldn't be more different! *grin* This is my favourite one, by America:

Funny I've been there
And you've been here
We ain't have no time to drink that beer

'Cause I understand you've been running from the man
That goes by the name of the sandman
He flies the sky like an eagle in the eye
Of a hurricane that's abandoned

America | Sandman

This next one I got from Daryl; I never knew Metalllica and the San Francisco Symphony could sound so good together. Thanks bro!

Something's wrong, shut the light
Heavy thoughts tonight
And they aren't of Snow White

Dreams of war, dreams of liars
Dreams of dragons' fire
And of things that will bite

Sleep with one eye open
Gripping your pillow tight

Exit light
Enter night
Take my hand
Off to never never land

Metallica | Enter Sandman

This last one I got from Shaocong's Stubbs The Zombie soundtrack. I love this cd, with their specially comissioned covers of 50's era songs! Everything seemed so simple then, and even their mournful songs sound happy *laugh*

Mister sandman, bring me a dream
Make her the cutest that I've ever seen
Give her two lips like roses and clover
Then tell her that her lonesome nights are over

Sandman, I'm so alone
Don't have nobody to call my own
Please turn on your magic beam
Mister sandman, bring me a dream

Oranger | Mr. Sandman

That's it! Gosh, this post took much longer than anticipated. Back to work!

The pain you drive in the heart of me

I get so mad when someone I love gets hurt. Especially if it was by someone I didn't have a high opinion of in the first place. But I've always been taught to mediate and not exacerbate. I just hope I don't appear apathetic.

I'm not exactly sure what's going on, but this is for you:

Don't touch me please
I cannot stand the way you tease
I love you though you hurt me so
Now I'm going to pack my things and go

Once I ran to you
Now I run from you
This tainted love you've given
I gave you all a boy could give you
Take my tears and that's not nearly all
Tainted love

If I wait, this could die

I didn't know Franz Ferdinand was an angry rabbit *grin* but listen to what he says..

So if you're lonely
You know I'm here waiting for you
I'm just a crosshair
I'm just a shot away for you

And if you leave here
You leave me broken, shattered I lie
I'm just a crosshair
I'm just a shot then we can die

I testify to having guilty feelings

Another well...inspirational song? *laugh* This guy is such an optimist! Sometimes I wish I was like that.

I'd like to wait
To see how things turn out
If you apply some pressure

What happens when you lose everything
You just start again
You start all over again

What happens when you lose some pressure
Apply some pressure
You lose some pressure

You know that I would love to see you next year
I hope that I am still alive next year
You know that I would love to see you in that dress
I hope that I will live to see you undress

There are powerlines in our bloodlines

During times like now, when I'm so busy with assignments, projects, presentations, resume-writing and the coming exams, I somehow, inadvertently miss playing with my old band. It was stressful at times, finding the time to learn new songs, to practice or even just to meet up and jam; But oh-so-satisfying when it all came together on stage.

We've stopped playing together for some time already. But recently, our lead singer is considering performing again. I can't wait to hear him sing once more! *smile* Check out our past songs here. These songs were recordered before I joined though, so they weren't any keyboard parts yet.

One of the covers we did then was The Engine Driver by The Decemberist. It had an offbeat rhythm which I liked, even though it required a bit of work.

Here's the original, a wonderfully lovelorn song:

I'm a money lender
I have fortunes, upon fortunes
Take my hand for tender
I am tortured, ever tortured

And if you don't love me, let me go

And I am a writer, writer of fictions
I am the heart that you call home
And I've written pages, upon pages
Trying to rid you from my bones

Why don't we just move into the other room

While on the topic of dancing and talking. Or rather, dancing instead of talking, here's another one which is just so delightful! *grin* I think this is my favourite Kings Of Convenience song!

Even if I could hear what you say
I doubt my reply will be interesting for you to hear
Because I haven't read a single book all year
And the only film I saw I didn't like it at all

I'd rather dance, I'd rather dance than talk with you

The music's too loud and the noise from the crowd
Increases the chance of misinterpretation
So let your hips do the talking
I'll make you laugh by acting like the guy who sings
And you'll make me smile by really getting into the swing

So fun I'm distracted

Everyone I know seems so down recently. I think we need a bit of dance-inducing HOT HOT HEAT! *grin* It's so hard to keep still listening to this song, with all the cowbells and their clever, repetitive play with words.

You are my only girl
But you're not my owner, girl

Talk to me, dance with me
Here, in the spotlight, girl
Talk to me, dance with me
You're the spotlight, girl

Lots of chocolate for me to eat!

I can totally understand how Eliza Doolittle was convinced to stay and be Henry Higgin's little phonetics experiment by the offer of chocolates -- boxes of them, barrels of them, everyday. You'll live on them eh? *grin* I too, would have given in to temptation if I was in her place!

Bought these yesterday:

1. Wonka Whipple Scrumptious Caramel Delight
2. Newman's Ginger in Dark Chocolate
3. Caramel Wafers (I forgot the brand but they're from Portugal)

Can't stop humming Wouldn't it be Loverly from My Fair Lady now..

Lots of chocolate for me to eat
Lots of coal making lots of heat
Warm hands, warm face, warm feet
Now wouldn't it be loverly!

You've got a lure I can't deny

An argument sung, back and forth between a couple.
Electronic beats and sounds in the background.
Intertwining voices.

Don't you feed me lines about some idealistic future
Your heart won't heal right if you keep tearing out the sutures

I still find nothing better.
A matter of time?
Eventuality.

This is unlike the story it was written to be

Found the video for peach, plum, pear too!

There's just something about watching an old home movie projection, sometimes in reverse, that brings about such an air of wistfulness.

And you've changed some

I've been listening to Joanna Newsom's Peach, Plum, Pear a lot the past week. It's strange because I didn't really like it that much at first. Her voice was such a stark contrast to Owen Pallett's in the Final Fantasy's cover version (which I discovered first and fell in love with at first listen!) and I just couldn't get used to it. And though both songs are accompanied by string instruments, they are so markedly different, with Newsom on her harpsichord and Pallett's plucking and bowing on his violin.

But now I'm addicted to her untrained child-like voice. And what sounds like children chorusing together with her. The raw, magical sounds of her harpsichord.

And I can't stop admiring her for coming up with lyrics like these:

I have read the right books
To interpret your looks
You were knocking me down
With the palm of your eye

Now it's done
Watch it go
And you've changed some
Water runs from the snow

Am I so dear?
Do I run rare?
And you've changed some
Peach, plum, pear
Peach, plum

Na nanana na nanana nana
Na nanana na nanana nana
Na na na na na na na na

Joanna Newsom
Peach, Plum, Pear
Final Fantasy
Peach, Plum, Pear

Where are we?

I think I've figured out how to do it! Though they'll only last for a week! These are Imogen Heap's goodnight and go and hide and seek.
I lov
e the strings and the synthesized sounds and the little pitter patter rhythms. They make me think of happy times, even though the lyrics are rather sad.

Why do you have to be so cute?
It's impossible to ignore you.
*sigh*
