And you've changed some

I've been listening to Joanna Newsom's Peach, Plum, Pear a lot the past week. It's strange because I didn't really like it that much at first. Her voice was such a stark contrast to Owen Pallett's in the Final Fantasy's cover version (which I discovered first and fell in love with at first listen!) and I just couldn't get used to it. And though both songs are accompanied by string instruments, they are so markedly different, with Newsom on her harpsichord and Pallett's plucking and bowing on his violin.

But now I'm addicted to her untrained child-like voice. And what sounds like children chorusing together with her. The raw, magical sounds of her harpsichord.

And I can't stop admiring her for coming up with lyrics like these:

I have read the right books
To interpret your looks
You were knocking me down
With the palm of your eye

Now it's done
Watch it go
And you've changed some
Water runs from the snow

Am I so dear?
Do I run rare?
And you've changed some
Peach, plum, pear
Peach, plum

Na nanana na nanana nana
Na nanana na nanana nana
Na na na na na na na na

Joanna Newsom
Peach, Plum, Pear
Final Fantasy
Peach, Plum, Pear
